Welcome to Dajabon. This small town in the west border of the Dominican Republic serves as one the main crossing points between the DR an Haiti. The airfield in this file serves as a local air force post and its used to coordinate air operations in the border. It is also used as a civilian airport and many pilots (myself included) make some of their first cross country flights to this airfield, several flight schools in the DR set this field as a cross country practice. Its an interisting place with relation to other fields in the DR as it has a more bush flying feeling to it compared to others. In the 1950's it served as an active airbase for the Dominican Airforce and P51's used to operate out of here, hence the 1,000 meter runway which is quite long for this kind of field. There's no navigation aids here nor an atc tower so remember to check for other traffic in the area when approaching. (When approaching from the north be on the look for a large grain silo, it serves as a great landmark to find the runway. Once you go past the silo make a left turn and the runway should be right in front of you)
Features:
- Rearranged the trees in the surroundigns to match the satellite imagery and improve the feel of the airfield.
- Added some objects to the air force station and added the windsock and fence present in the real field.
- Made a composition with in-sim objects to reproduce the grain silo in the town of dajabon.
- Added a parking spot for cold starts.
- Added some night lights to the miltary post, remeber this is a daylight operations airfield so don't expect to find it at night. (For anyone that might now, there's an old beacon tower in the real field. I haven't been to it at night so i don't know if they turn it on. If they do please let me know so I can add it instead of the antenna I placed in there)
I want to thank all of you for your support on this project to bring the DR to a new level of realism. Every like, comment, download and donation is greatly apreciated and gives me more motivation to carry on I hope you're enjoying the scenery as much as I do. This one might come as a surprising one to release next, but I quickly made it while updating Puerto Plata and starting work on the next large airport and it has a special place in my heart as it was part of my flight training. I hope that this gives some of you an oportunity to see the northwest of the island as it is quite beautiful and full of small crop dusting airfields to explore.
Be sure to check the recently Updated Puerto Plata Airport which was the first one in this project. Stay tuned for future updates and more airports in the beautiful Quisqueya la bella!
Until the next,
David
This is a lovely airport to land in, especially when returning from a cargo mission in Haiti. Thanks for this!
