A community mod for the Cessna 208B Grand Caravan, which aims to fix many of the issues present in the stock version.

Engine and Flight Model
Higher thrust and greater braking force, allowing for short field ops.
Improved flight characteristics, more realistic climb, increased drag on approach and less float on landing.
More accurate cruise performance.

Ground Handling
More control while taxiing.
Tighter turning circle.
More realistic idle behaviour, lower fuel burn.

Added CAS annunciations, Systems Page, improved engine readouts.
Autopilot and instrument fixes.

Thanks to everyone who has contributed, and to PilotTrev for sharing his knowledge and first hand experience.

Issues and Limitations

  • Beta mode and prop feathering are nonfunctional
  • The propeller generates zero drag/has no affect on torque
  • Torque increases with altitude
  • ITT effectively decreases with altitude
Propeller - Beta mode is completely nonfunctional, blade pitch jumps from the minimum stop to reverse with no control between.  Feathering is possible, but the behaviour is so bugged that it's practically useless. The prop itself lacks any physics, produces no drag and has no affect on torque.
Climb Performance - With ITT being broken, it's not possible to use it as a metric when tuning climb performance, neither is the Maximum Torque for Climb chart of much use. Instead, I referenced the Maximum RoC and RoC - Takeoff Flap Setting tables, crosschecked with Time, Fuel, and Distance, to find a somewhat acceptable balance where climb performance is not overly excessive at minimum weight, but still allows for max RoC at max weight. I haven't accounted for the reduction in airspeed when flying through clouds.
Cruise Performance - Due to the torque/prop issues, cruise performance and fuel flow can only be tuned correctly for a specific set of conditions, outside of which, engine behaviour and performance varies. For this purpose I used ISA conditions, 8807 pounds and 1750 RPM.
Flight Model (WIP) - The flight model is the result of adapting the POH to the above issues and the limited control the config files provide. Not only are turboprops poorly simulated but the inaccuracies are all over the place, meaning the phases of flight are often at odds with each other. With this in mind, I've attempted to average out behaviour at all stages of operation, rather than perfecting any one aspect at the expense of another.
As mentioned above, the flight model has been tuned using ISA conditions, a climb/cruise/landing weight of 7300-8807/8807/8500 pounds, a cruise RPM of 1750 and the inertial separator normal; live weather behaviour will vary but should still show an improvement over the previous model.
A few notes from my testing so far:
  • Taxi -  To compensate for the lack of beta, thrust in the beta range has been further reduced to make taxiing more manageable.
  • Takeoff - For the most part, normal and short field takeoff procedures can be followed as you'd expect - maximum takeoff torque, takeoff distance and RoC with flaps TO/APR closely match the POH. Flaps UP takeoff ground roll is shorter than it should be.
  • Climb - The thrust to drag ratio favours the accuracy of cruise over climb performance. As a consequence, at lower weight, climb performance is higher than it should be, and requires a reduced power setting. At maximum weight, required power/torque will be higher than expected. Time, fuel and distance are correct as long as VS/KIAS are kept in check.
  • Cruise - Cruise performance is fairly accurate to 12,000 ft (1750 RPM), above which, torque and fuel flow remain accurate to 18,000 ft, while airspeed falls below expected numbers; to compensate, prop RPM can be increased without affecting torque. Above 18,000 ft, power must be increased and consequently fuel flow will be higher than expected.
  • Descent, approach and landing - Drag has been increased and the relationship between Ng and the power lever adjusted in an attempt to simulate propeller drag as you bring it back towards idle.

Just a slight Comment Love the performance but the Tourque Dose not match with the Standby TQ I normally use 1900 TQ and 1800 Prop RPM cruse, the Standby TQ now shows 1500 while MFD shows 1900. The reason Why I use 1900 TQ is where its Marked In The Standby Inst for Cruse. The FLC dosen`t hold the speed but seems to maintain 1200VS seems to follow the VS over FLC. Thank you nice job thats why they call WT LOL have a great day!!!! Keep up the wonderful work........Scooter

This is a good job, I hope the author will fix asap the last version's bugs in order to be able to use this mod with the last version of MSFS 2020
This version of the mod has not worked for many weeks due to the MSFS Updates.
The working version of the mod is v.2102.1 or 1b and can be obtained from:
https://github.com/dgtlanlg/C208B-mod/releases/tag/v2102.1
This also works with version 0.3.5 of the working title G1000 mod with the fix included in the c208 mod download.
Someone also aked if the mod can be used with the GTN750 mod and I can confirm yes as long as the WT G1000 mod is installed as well.

Hi great mod, but of late the heading knob does not work and the aircraft does not follow a nav path
Hi there, I've just installed this with the WT G1000 fix and it appears the Heading knob is not working on either PFD. Is this something that others are aware of and am I maybe installing your mod incorrectly? This is just a minor comment and the Heading Knobs next to the PFDs are non-essential. BTW Thanks for all the hard work on this.

Does this mod work with the GTN 750 for msfs
I tried but got a ctd after a few minutes.
Both screens are completely White

Doesn't work for me since latest World Update. As another user commented here, the middle screen is completely blank.

Hello, I've installed this mod but I found that the included extra file for G1000 announcements breaks the G1000 mod - I get only a black screen in the left G1000 window, and the center one loads the overlays but not terrain data. Without the extra file the G1000 works fine, just without announcements, of course. I'm using mod version 2102.3, WorkingTitle 0.3.4, MSFS 1.14.6.0 (Sim Update 3, Steam), no other mods other than a few liveries and airport ones. Thanks for the excellent mod, the plane flies beautifully.

Brilliant!!
Best mod I have ever installed. Been flying a lot with the Cessna GC 200B in OnAir Manger since it's the best money making GA aircraft. Was really struggling with this beast when taxiing. Could not stay on the taxiways and spent a lot of time with the control sensitivity to correct it with not much luck. That improvement alone was worth the DL. But the improvements on the power and handling were the icing on top. If you fly the 208B you need this mod. Great work mate !!!

Been using this variant for a while and some of the previous mods before this one. We love the improvement but I do love the suggestion of allowing some doors, chocks or other items to interact with.
It does fly nicely however

is there a way for me to test and see if the MOD is working or not?
i installed it but i don't see any difference, so i was wondering how can i test to see if it works? is there some visuals or something that if i see it i know the MOD kicked in and working?

FYI
Yet AGAIN when flying through clouds it started to loose speed. "As if the clouds were made of honey!!" When I climbed above the cloud deck started flying normal. All anti-ice precautions were taken and no visible ice present on the airframe or windshield, i.e. no icing....
Excellent work. Definitely fixes many of the issues of the default Cessna 208 while giving it a more realistic flying experience. Bravo!

I have two questions/observations: (1) The HDG knob located to the left of the G1000 screen is not operative, it's that way?, it does a different purpose?. No big deal, since the HDG knob located on the glareshield works Ok. (2) The FLC mode does not control well the selected speed, sometimes the speed drops and the aircraft nose does not go down as it should. The VS mode works perfectly well. I'm using the latest MSFS release v1.13.17.0, does it matter?
