Carey Lake Airport is an unpaved, privately-owned airstrip located on Canada Highway 11 (part of the Trans-Canada Highway) west of Hearst, Ontario. The airport facilities consist of the airstrip, hangars, and several float pane docks. Most notably, the airport is the home of Hearst Air Service, which for more than 35 years has been flying hunters and anglers to remote locations along rivers and lakes in the region around Hearst.
The Hearst Air fleet consists of a C208 Caravan, a DHC-3 Turbine Otter, a DHC-2T Turbo Beaver, and a DHC-2 Beaver. Each plane can be configured in a number of ways, including on wheels, floats, wheeled skis, and amphibian. A favorite service for fishing enthusiasts is a fly-in adventure at one of several remote outposts on lakes maintained by the company. An outpost consists of a rustic cabin, dock and boats with outboard motors. The cabin is the only structure located on the lake, so anglers have the entire lake to themselves for a blissful week of fishing for walleye, northern pike, and perch.
It’s hard to imagine a more laid back flying career than ferrying anglers and hunters to remote sites via float plane. Here’s your chance to try out this career in the sim! I have implemented the airstrip and water aerodrome with parking spaces both at the docks and on land. So why not load up your Beaver and fly over to the Hearst Air outpost on Hillmer Lake (found here) or the outpost on Martison Lake (found here)? Be sure to check your weight and balance (as any responsible pilot would) since those darned anglers like to bring every piece of gear imaginable! I hope to create more outposts for additional adventures in the future.
The airstrip has the local Canadian designation CNX3. The water aerodrome (seaplane base) has the separate designation CNJ5. You can find my implementation of CNJ5 here. All of the airport and seaplane facilities are included in the CNX3 package. The CNJ5 package only includes a water runway on which you can spawn if desired.
Notes
To install the airport, unzip and place the folder titled "mulberrywing-airport-cnx3-carey-lake" in your community folder.
To see the float plane docks you will need to download the Seaplane Asset Library from flightsim.to and place it in your community folder. Many thanks to 30West for providing this great library!
Carey Lake has Unicom on 122.8 MHz during limited hours. This also serves as the common traffic advisory frequency.
I have no connection to Hearst Air Service. I have constructed these sceneries based on information from their website and from Google and Bing maps.
