Leo Wattimena Airport, previously known as Pitu Airport (IATA: OTI, ICAO: WAEW) is an airport located in Morotai Regency, North Maluku.
This airport was built during the Japanese occupation, in 1942 under the name Morotai airport.
When Japan arrived in 1942, 2 runways were built.
After the Allies entered Morotai in 1944 they took over, and built 5 runways for a total of 7.
After Indonesian independence, Morotai Airport was operated by the Indonesian Air Force and used as an air base.
In 1990, the Indonesian government decided to develop Morotai Airport. Become a civil airport, accessible to the general public.
