Alitalia was the flag carrier airline of Italy. It was founded in 1946 and operated for nearly 75 years. As of my last knowledge update in January 2022, Alitalia ceased operations in October 2021, and a new national airline called ITA Airways was established to take its place.
Here are some key points about Alitalia:
History: Alitalia was founded in 1946 and served as the national flag carrier of Italy for many years. It operated both domestic and international flights.
Financial Difficulties: Alitalia faced financial challenges for a significant portion of its existence. It underwent various restructuring efforts and received government assistance multiple times.
Partnerships and Alliances: Alitalia was a member of the SkyTeam airline alliance, which includes carriers like Delta Air Lines, Air France, and KLM. This allowed for cooperation with other member airlines in terms of routes, codeshares, and benefits for passengers.
Fleet: Alitalia operated a mix of short-haul and long-haul aircraft, including models from Airbus and Embraer.
Destinations: Before its closure, Alitalia served numerous destinations in Europe, North America, South America, Asia, and Africa.
New ITA Airways: In 2021, a new Italian national airline called ITA Airways (Italia Trasporto Aereo) was established to replace Alitalia. ITA Airways started operations with a more streamlined business model and a focus on profitability.
Please note that if you're looking for the most up-to-date information about ITA Airways or any developments related to the aviation industry in Italy, I recommend checking official sources or reputable news outlets, as my knowledge is based on information available up until January 2022.
Alitalia fall was more than just financial difficuelties. On top at least in my opinion will be a poor and weak managment, high Op cost and a very agressive competition . Will Alitalia come back again? Who konws. As for so far ITA Airways bought the Alitalia brand. There are some rummors going around that If Lufthansa takes ITA Airways, they might use the brand, perhaps on the long flight Operation.
Best regards .
