This add-on places AI Ship Traffic on the Great Lakes in North America. It is part of the Global AI Ship Traffic project and is a work around resolving the bug in MSFS which places all AI ships at sea level inclusive those suppose to be sailing on high level altitudes. Once the bug is corrected you will have to uninstall this package.
Don't expect ships all over - this add on does not intend to fill every corner of the sea, but rather to have models of different types and realistic to the Lakes region present.
This package does not include effect files due to the above mentioned bug.
For support and additional information please follow our threads on the project on forums.flightsimulator.com, avsim.com, fsdeveloper.com, sim-outhouse.com in English, on flightsim.no in Norwegian and Danish, on voovirtual.com in Portuguese, and pilote-virtuel.com in French.
Installation is simple: unzip and drop in your Community folder. Ensure you traffic settings for Ships and Ferries are 5-10% to avoid conflicts with other AI ship traffic including default.
Known issues:
- Models do not have effects such as smoke and wakes.
- Models do not have hard decks - it will be reintroduced as soon as enabled for simobjects by Asobo
- The MSFS engine is simple and not very stable; ships will some times be unstable or making strange movements if they meet other objects
- Not all ships appear in harbor areas with heavy scenery; some prioritization by the sim engine can prevent some ships from showing
- The water surface on the Great Lakes is not flat, and with the way this work around is done it means that sometimes models might be too deep in the water, some time too high
- If you use Little Nav Map and has the main package Global AI Ship Traffic MSFS V2 installed, you will see some double ships - the ones from the main package will however not show up in the sim as they are at ocean level and not at the lake surface due to the bug mentioned above.

Thanks but unfortunately it doesn't include the great lakes. That's the one I'm looking for if anyone got a link for me...

Are you coming back now they've updated the terms of service? Sounds like it was just a big misunderstanding. This is still the best option to find addons well organized in one place and would be sad not to have you guys here.

Thanks for your work. Your major scenery addon (GAIST 3) gives so much more live into the world. However, this little fella here covering the Great Lakes won't come to live again: it simply gives me an infinite loading screen on startup. Removing immediately solved the issue. Maybe a little update here as well?

This file will no longer be updated here on Flightsim.to as I cannot accept the Terms of Service introduced by Flightsim.to. Please search for it elsewhere.

I started out just looking for a ship object to cover the flat satellite image of the ore boat at Two Harbors MN. But this is so much better! I fly GA a lot over Superior & Michigan and it's great to have the authentic traffic models in motion. Thank you!

Just curious, will you be updating this U.S. Lakes ship traffic package in the near future? Now that you have updated the Ultra-Beta package to 3.0

I really enjoy this mod as I live near this location and fly it often. Would it be possible to add the Miller Ferry and the Jet Express that service Put-In-Bay? They both are very prominent in this area of Lake Erie. Thanks for everything you do!

Do we still need this?

Yes, the GAIST Beta does not include USA lakes. So for the moment yes.

Is this mod still necessary after the GAIST Ultra update? Does it contain the new features from the Ultra update? Or will it come in the future?

hey, I love this mod, any chance you could add Irish ferries in future update please?

I use MSFS Addon Linker and the folder is showing red, not a red circle, I have selected it for scenery. What does the red folder name indicate? Is it that there is something wrong?
I guess you will have to check that with the MSFS Addon Linker creator - I do know that some have had trouble installing with MSFS Addon Linker, maybe because the way this file is zipped. However, for most it works.

Hello KL791, Thanks for this great addon for the GAIS addon 😉
am not famiiair with the Northern Great Lakes, but I flying around there a bit - in MSFS ofcourse - I noticed only one ship. Ofcourse this is possible since these are huge lakes and ships cannot be everywhere at a certain time.
However, I wondered if you could add some recreational ship traffic along the coasts ? At least if there is recreational shiptraffic ofcourse.
Maybe I do too much love eycandy... 😉
Thanks for all the work you allready did anyhow.
Kind regards,
Bram

The lakes are as you say huge and the traffic is also in reality limited compared with other areas of the world especially if you go to Lake Superior - and e.g. a tug you might not notice unless you fly quite close or use Little Nav Map to find it.
We will see if we can do some leisure boats - including the Bluenose - for next update; I also have a couple more of the 1000 footers, the NOAH research ship and the Bay Class Coast Guard icebreaking tugs on the list. We have the leisure boats but due to the water not being flat it is difficult to place them without that they are sometimes partly submerged because they are simply to small... So it needs a bit of time.

Thanks. i was hoping you were going to do this. I noticed it was pretty desolate up on Superior recently.

Awesome mod, pic no.5 almost looks like the "Bluenose". Thank-You! 😀
3 years ago
Soon you can say more than "almost looks like" - we have the Bluenose in our project, but we need to put the underwater hull to the model and the route needs to be done carefully as the freeboard is low and the model can easily be "flooded" as the water is not flat in the MSFS version of the lakes. So watch out for the updates though it won't be this month.
