Hi all,

This is for those of us who use FS Traffic and want to see more departing traffic at KJFK or EDDF. I've only done those two airports as a start but am happy to do others on request.

FS Traffic is one out of three (AIG, FSLTL, FS Traffic) major Flight Simulator traffic addons, and each tool has its own advantages and limitations.

  • AIG: I personally haven't used AIG, but I'm aware it has a huge aircraft library, which is really helpful.
  • FSLTL has become very popular, but it only displays live traffic which isn't of much use if you're flying at a time when there is no traffic at the respective airport in real life.
  • FS Traffic: I'm currently using FS Traffic and find that it works quite well, however, I sometimes feel there's not enough traffic departing from airports. FS Traffic's aircraft library is currently not very extensive either. Big airports in real life often have a flight departing every minute, and FS Traffic's flight plans don't quite display this. One great benefit of FS Traffic is that you can manually add traffic to an airport to make it busier, using the FS Traffic Control Centre, or even doing it directly in the relevant flight schedule (e.g. modifying the .ini file).

To get the most out of FS Traffic, and because I like airports to be busy, I have made a start and created two comprehensive departure flight plans (EDDF and KJFK) that are tailored to creating a high amount of departing traffic.

Installation:

To install the two .ini files, just drop them in you Community\justflight-fstraffic-module\Data\Schedules folder. Ensure you save the original files before overwriting them.

Important notes:

  • To ensure you see more traffic at your airport, I suggest that you set the 'Time Before Departure Value' in the FS Traffic Control Centre/Options to at least 120 minutes. You may be aware that FS Traffic only generates traffic at the airport that departs within the time you have set, e.g. 120 minutes. No further departing traffic will depart after the time is up. The airport will be quite empty by then. I don't think this is great but it's just how FS Traffic works.
  • You may not see some of the models displayed in the photos (e.g. the Lufthansa A340-300 or A340-600 or some of the freighters) as these are not included in FS Traffic. However, to get these airplanes, you can easily use Freeware FSLTL or AIG models where FS Traffic currently offers no model.
    • To do this, you must first download FSLTL and AIG and place them in your community folder. Note that downloading the entire AIG library takes several hours.
    • Then open the FS Traffic Control Centre/Aircraft Manager, under Select Aircraft', select e.g. the '343' (which is the A340-300).
    • Go into the relevant A340-300 folder in AIG that holds the livery you want to use, and open the aircraft.cfg.
    • Copy the 'Title' of the aircraft from there into the 'Livery 1' row in the Aircraft Manager in the FS Traffic Control Centre. For the Lufthansa A340 that I have used, the title is: AIGAIM_Lufthansa Airbus A340-300 - OC.
    • Hit 'Save changes'.
    • The A340-300 should now spawn in your Sim. Do the same with all other models, e.g. the freighters, whether you take them from FSLTL or AIG. Contact me if you have any questions.
  • Note that sometimes, FS Traffic does not load traffic due to which I think is a bug. E.g., this happens to me if I go back from a flight to the main menu and load a new flight. If you see no traffic at EDDF or KJFK, restart your Sim.

Other notes:

  • For the sake of realism, the flight plans feature airlines that depart from these airports, but I have not researched the exact right aircraft model the relevant airline uses at this airport. E.g. you may find a 777 instead of a 787 of the same airline.
  • The flight plans do not represent the right amount of flights a certain airline offers from this airport per day (e.g. once per day). The files are optimised to display rush hour.
  • Similarly, I have not used the right flight numbers and destinations for the flights as this does not affect my Flight Sim experience.
  • The flight plans create a steady traffic volume at all times of the day with lots of departures every 15 minutes, even at night.
  • Note that I have used payware addon for KJFK in the photos, but this should not majorly affect the amount of traffic generated.
