KSMO Santa Monica Municipal Airport for MSFS
A product of VTOL Aviation: https://sites.google.com/view/vtol-aviation/home (updated website coming soon)
VTOL Aviation is proud to release Santa Monica Municipal Airport! Santa Monica Municipal Airport is 2 miles from the Pacific Ocean, and 6 miles north of LAX International Airport. KSMO is overwhelmingly a General Aviation airport, with over 83,000 GA operations in & out of the airport each year. Santa Monica Airport has a rich history, dating back to its creation in the 1920’s. Recently, the airport has been the focus of community efforts to reduce noise and airport operations, which resulted in the shortening of the runway to its current length of 3,500’. The historic layout of the airport can be seen through the various patchwork of concrete and asphalt as the airport evolved over the years. Very recently, the concrete that made up portions of the original runway have been removed and replaced with grass. This is reflected in version “FA2020” which is included.
Also included is an updated Marina Del Ray, which properly displays all boats and docks above the water surface.
This airport is free to use and always will be, no matter what additional edits we make. If you use this airport in a stream or other creative media, all we ask is to receive credit for the airport. Please do NOT upload elsewhere without our permission. In order to ensure that people get the best quality freeware, we are handling releases in a very particular way to ensure that it's easiest for us to manage hotfixes. Once a period of time has past, we'll begin uploading to other sites.
Current version: v1.1
INSTALLATION INSTRUCTIONS
Download the zip file.
Inside the zip file is a folder titled "vtolaviation-KSMO" (pre-summer 2020 version) and “vtolaviation-KSMO_FA2020 (Fall 2020 & current version). IMPORTANT!!! Choose only one folder and drag that into your MSFS\Community directory.
That's it! Fire up MSFS, then go to World Map and search for KSMO.

I'm new to the flightsim world. Is this a free, downloadable add-on airport to MSFS 2020? If so will it work with any version of FS2020?

Yes, this airport is freeware scenery and should work on MS Store and Steam versions of FS2020.

That asphault soccer area used to be GA parking, but has been closed off from the airport property. All of my references (current as of October 2020) show this to still be the case. Do you know for sure that the airport has reincorporated this parking area?

Nothing has reverted back. It still remains closed off from the airport, along with the soccer field.

1) The approach ends for 21/03 have grass planted (not the trees this is showing) which is important as the trees showing create large obstacles to the displaced threshold
2) The Atlantic (GA) ramp is a commercial building and does not have hangars and fencing as shown now in front of it. It is basically the large building behind the hangars and fencing you can see.
3) There are other smaller things that are far less important such as the airplanes popping up and down into the ground, and have photos of anything you might need if you are able to update! 😊
Thanks gain!

There's a significant berm between the barker hanger and the off-taxiway tie downs- any way this could be added? Cars also frequently park between the tie downs and the berm.
The B5 runup area should be slightly longer- the north end is actually past the northern more extreme of B5.
The main airport building should be 1 story shorter. The hangers to the south of the main airport building should be taller.
Pedantic light BS: Helipad has in helipad ?green? lights at night. The taxiway lights on B are not aligned with the center stripe- they're offset to the north-west of the stripe. There are Christmas lights inside the tower.
Thank you for this!
